"Rainmaker" is the new release from the soul sonic groove duo known as Colonel Red & Inkswel, manifesting on the long-stay label Tokyo Dawn Records. A new chapter in their introspective, raw, and gritty take on modern neo-soul, "Rainmaker" picks up where their last critically acclaimed album, "Holders of The Sun", left off on Compost Records.
Their previous outing garnered a double-page spread in Blues and Soul magazine and was celebrated by underground fans around the world, not only for its Moodymann remix. "Rainmaker" takes things even further in a tense, compelling, and emotional direction - inspired by the urgency of the human experience and its ups and downs. Track one sees a signature Inkswel MPC production paired with Redz' haunting synth production work, wrapped together by a call to arms around the inspiring theme of "Standing Strong" - a call to self-love and independence, rounded out with a fire verse from Los Angeles native and Project Blowed leader Abstract Rude. "Left 2 Write" solidifies the pair's signature emotional space soul sound to new levels, one for the steppers. The title track, "Rainmaker", features an enchanting vocal tone, hypnotic and unbridled. "Find Your Way" showcases a melding of minds with Redz' deep and seductive vocals, whereas "Our Life" lifts spirits to a housier tone, backed with the spiritual jazz leanings of Carl Rom. The release is perfectly rounded off with the staccato rhythm of "Dig Deep" before closing with the hip hop soul angles of "Good Good", a center stage anthem centered on love in relationships.
"Rainmaker" is a testament to the creative power the duo brings to collaboration - an unmatched unique sound in an often filtered and tired music industry.
