"Black Religion" captures the immersion of Lagos-based singer-songwriter JazzZ into black music, soulfully combining funk, faith and finesse.
Working with producers Black Intelligence and Nasser Sani from Nigeria and Karl Forest from Tokyo, JazzZ interweaves her unique style of rapping and singing with Boom Bap, Trap and Afrofunk, creating a wholesome hip hop and soul project from the perspective of an African lyricist.
Dealing with themes such as freedom of expression for African women, self-discovery, empowerment, joy, pain and identity, this is her reverence to musical artforms of black expression. Providing a channel to spiritual realms from Lagos to Tokyo and beyond, this is JazzZ.
