Published lyricist, singer-songwriter, MC and spoken word artist LyricL is a jubilant, exultant performer, whose animated fresh style exudes joy, in a euphoric and beautiful way. “Lyrical dexterity and openness to innovate, elate and debate,” she declares.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, LyricL’s early and enduring musical influences came from home. Her father loved African jazz, gospel, High Life, Oriental Brothers and King Sunny Ade. “He used to entertain us when we were young by making human beatbox, chest tap-drum sounds and playing his hands as wind sounds … plus my Mommy dances and sings in her own key of happiness to this very day. That vibe and energy continues in my current works.”
Lyricist, rapper and tutor, LyricL lights up mics and stages with her performances. Her eclectic catalogue spans Hip-Hop, Spoken Word, Jazz through to Afro and Broken Beat with a soulful edge and stirring grooves.
An often sought after and keen creative ally, LyricL has featured, recorded and toured with a range of talented musicians and producers including Tony Allen and Dele Sosimi from Fela Kuti’s band Egypt 80, MJ Cole, Nathan Haines, Mark De Clive Lowe & Bugz In The Attic. She has also supported Jill Scott, Patrice Rushen, Izzi Dunn, The Roots, Omar, Incognito, Big Daddy Kane and Xantone Blacq. Her debut album “Amazed”, was mixed in Atlanta by Daz-I-Kue and featured a myriad of musical styles artists such as Heidi Vogel, Kevin Mark Trail and DJ Spinna.
She has just finished recording her new album ‘Unequivocal’ about to be released soon on Tokyo Dawn Records, featuring Daz-I-Kue (BB Boogie /Bugz In The Attic), Stephen BAM Busette (Scientists of Sound), Andrea Clarke and many more. Watch this space!
